Creating image plane plants

  1. Download Quixel Bridge HERE
  2. Open it up and sign into your Epic Games account
  3. Go to "Atlases" and download a plant that you like
    1. You can leave the settings as is, we just need an Albedo and Opactity map
  4. Open Maya
  5. Make a plane with no subdivisions
  6. Add a lambert texture to the object
  7. Click the checker box for "Color" then in the popup chose file
  8. Click on the folder for the image name int he new settings this created, find your albedo texture
  9. Do the same thing for transparency
The plane should now look like this

Now we will separate the leaves
  1. With the move tool active hit shift+Ctrl Hold right click
  2. In the pop-up uncheck "Preserve UVs"
    1. This will allow us to move parts of the model and keep the UVs the same
    2. If preserve UVs does not show up- it is also in the tool settings window for the move tool
  3. Grab the multicut tool and cut around a part you want for your model
  1. Select the new face and Shift+ Hold click "Detach Faces"
  2. You can move it away from the model
    1. The leaf should stay the same, this is because we preserved UVs
  3. Now on the new face Click "preserve UVs" again
  4. Put an edge loop down through the middle and add points to hug the model like this
  1. Now you can use surface tools to edit the model and put the pieces together like a real plant
If you want to export it just select your model and export as an FBX- then apply the textures again
