Installing scripts into Maya- RapidRig

 Installing Rapid Rig at School or On Your Own PC  

1. Open a brand-new Maya.mb

2. Copy and paste this into the MEL Command line:  

internalVar -userScriptDir;

Hit ENTER. This will tell you where your Scripts directory is.   

Copy the provided RapidRig scripts (click the link at the bottom of this article to download) to that location.  

3. Quit out of Maya. Don’t save. Open Maya again. In the MEL Command Line type the name of the script: 

RapidRig_Modular_V2

The RapidRig UI should now show up. Close RapidRig. We will now create a better way of launching RapidRig.

Creating a Shelf Button for RapidRig   

1. Open the Script Editor. Type RapidRig_Modular_V2 It should now be italicized and have turned blue. This is called sourcing the file.  

2. Make a new shelf and call it RapidRig.  

3. Highlight it by dragging over it in the Script Editor.  

4. LMB drag from the Script Editor to the new Shelf.  

5. Save as MEL  

6. Add a custom label in the Shelf Editor and call it RRM. Save all shelves.  

7. Test it out: Click on the button and it should open RapidRig. Close this file. Don’t save.  

8. Open a new file and check to make sure the buttons you created are there
